Cassandra - Say Goodbye to Relational Databases - Chris Barber
http://cassandra.apac...

Everybody loves their tables, joins, order bys, and group bys,
but when it comes to dealing with massive amounts of data,
relation databases can't come close to the speed and
scalability of distributed key-value databases.

I'll be talking about Cassandra, how it scales to handle tons
of data and still be fast and fault tolerant. We'll start with
the basics, build Cassandra from source, designing a data
model, and show how to use Cassandra with PHP.

Please Note
This meetup will start at 6:00PM - 8:00PM. Please RSVP so that we have a good idea of how much food and beverages are needed.

Talk about this Meetup

Who attended?

  • 12 attendees
    •  Chris Barber is knowledgable and informative. He took questions and engaged the audience. Pizza is delicious and pop/soda is less risky then alcoholic beverages.
    •  Tonight was a riot!
    •  Content of the talk was disjoint and a little unfocused. That was probably due to the construction (or rather, demolition) occurring in the office space adjacent to the meetup. I would recommend that other space be procured until the remodel project is completed.
    •  The speaker was so generous in giving an interesting thorough good (& long) presentation, that I did not get a chance to thank him. Let me do so now. Thanks. It was very good.
